Do Good Bacteria Support Healthy Weight? Study Says Yes

Probiotics are the friendly microbes found in the human gut that are known to support digestive and immune health. Now, a new study points to yet another benefit of probiotics: maintaining a healthy weight.

After analyzing the findings from more than two dozen clinical trials involving nearly 2,000 healthy adults, researchers in China found that taking probiotics was linked to weight loss as well as a reduction in body mass index (BMI). Not only that, but participants lost even more weight when they consumed multiple types of probiotic bacteria, and on a regular basis.

Although this particular study focused on probiotics in supplement form, the beneficial bacteria can be found naturally in fermented, uncooked foods such as yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese, sauerkraut, pickled veggies, miso, tempeh, kombucha and kimchi.
