To a lot of people, summertime can be synonymous with fun. Barbecues, beaches, fun times with friends and family, and long, lazy days. But it can also be a time where, in the midst of all this fun, people can be tempted and forget about taking proper care of their health. All the sun, delicious foods, fun adventures, and relaxing activities can leave little time to think about making sure we’re being as healthy as possible.
If this is something you struggle with, you’re in luck! Here are 5 big tips to help you stay healthy and happy this summer!
1. Try to manage your stress
Summer is the perfect time to let go of all the stress you might be carrying around. I know that stress can be hard to deal with, but summertime offers a wonderful opportunity to take time to do things like go to the beach, hike, spend time outside with loved ones, and get some much-needed vitamin D from the sun. It’s also a great time to try out new hobbies like gardening, disc golf, or camping. All of this can help you let go of that stress.
2. Get plenty of exercise
We all know how important exercise is, I don’t need to tell you that! But summer weather is the best weather for getting some exercise outside, and there are tons of ways to do this – mostly for free, too. You could go hiking, go for a swim, go for a bike ride, or all of the above. If the weather is too hot for you, you could even go ahead and get a gym membership or invest in workout DVDs. You could even start a workout group for some extra motivation and accountability!
3. Make sure you wear sunscreen
The sun is great and it can actually do wonders to boost your mood, but too much direct sunlight can be harmful for your skin. It’s important to use a sunscreen lotion that’s at least SPF 30 to protect yourself from harmful UV rays. And if you’re going to be in the sun for a very long period of time, it’s good to reapply the sunscreen every three hours.
4. Keep yourself hydrated
We all know how important water is! Making sure you’re staying hydrated is always important, but it’s especially important during hot summer months. During these months, heat and sweat leaves your body feeling dehydrated. Dehydration can lead to dry skin, feeling dizzy, rapid heartbeat, and even fainting. It’s good to aim to drink at least 64 oz. of water each day to make sure you’re staying healthy and hydrated.
5. Try a digestive enzyme
Summer often comes with family barbecues, outdoor parties, and weekends full of yummy foods. There’s nothing wrong with eating delicious food but eating too many processed foods or a diet rich in protein could leave you feeling uncomfortable after a meal. So, it’s a good idea to prepare for that meal with a digestive enzyme such as Renew Life Digest Smart™ Enzymes.* They are specifically designed to help digest all types of food and may help prevent occasional gas, bloating and indigestion.*
Renew Life Digest Smart Extra Care is a high-potency enzyme for difficult digestion made with 25 plant-based, raw enzymes to help break down protein, carbohydrates, fats and fiber.* Renew Life Digest Smart Enzymes are available at health food stores, grocery, drugstores, and other major retailers, including Target and Walmart. As always, ask a doctor if you have a specific condition, as food allergies and gut concerns should be addressed separately.
