Addendum to my post above.  I discovered the following question in the Probiotics FAQm and the answer to "When do I take my probiotics" only further confuses the issue:

"If your probiotic has an enteric coating or any other delivery system
that protects the cultures through the acid produced in your stomach,
you can take it anytime, with food or on an empty stomach. If your
probiotic does not have a protective delivery system, it would be best
to take it on an empty stomach between meals, when the stomach is least
active."

Critical Colon is clearly marked to have "Enteric GUARD" yet the it is recommedation is to to be taken BETWEEN meals. However, Super Critical has no information on its packaging or on the web site regarding enteric coating but is recommended to be taken WITH meals.

This shouldn't be confusing. I feel it is incumbent upon you, the manufacturer, to take the reponsibility to ensure that customers HAVE the information to take the product so that they can realize the most effective gains from it. Especially so if there's the chance that it can be rendered ineffective if taken incorrectly.

Hi Laurie,

The stomach empties at different rates so it's hard to tell for sure, but 1-2 hours after a meal would be fine.

Taking a probiotic either on an empty stomach or with a light meal (like a snack) is ideal because the less food in the stomach, the better.

Hope that helps,

Hi,

I just read this entire thread twice and I am still confused.  I just purchased, "Ultimate Flora – Critical Care – 50 Billion", which suggests taking between meals.  What I need to know is exactly how long after a meal should I take it for optimum benefits.  One hour?  Two hours?

Thank you!

Laurie

Hi Larry,

I'm sorry for all of the confusion.  Hopefully I can clarify a little.

With the advanced technology of the delayed release capsules in our Ultimate Flora line of products, you can really take the capsule any time that's convenient for you and still get significant delivery of the bacteria.  Our bacteria are stomach acid and bile resistant so they are able withstand normal delivery conditions through the digestive tract. Because of the quality of our bacteria, there is never a risk of rendering the product "useless or ineffective" regardless of when you take them.

However, if the question is "how to best take them?" the answer is that it's best to give them a clear path through the stomach so they can quickly pass the stomach acid and break down in the intestine where they're needed most.  It's also fine to take the capsules with a light meal or snack.  This is why on our product directions we often say "take one capsule per day between meals."

We recommend that the Ultimate Flora Super Critical 200 Billion powder packets are taken with a small amount of food or beverage to buffer the acids in the stomach.  The directions for the product state, "Mix with beverages or soft food and consume immediately." You can view each of our product's directions on our website if you click on "product information" below the product's specifications.

So to summarize, when we formulate our products we specifically choose bacterial strains that have been shown to be safe, effective and acid and bile resistant so you can rest assured that you're taking the best probiotics available with optimal delivery.

I hope this explanation helps.

Thanks for your interest in our products,

Addendum to my above query:

I see on your FAQ in this probiotic forun a question "When do I take probiotics".

The answer further confuses the issue by recommending that if the probiotic is "enteric coated" it can be taken anytime.  If not, then best between meals when the stomach is "less active"

Well, as noted above, the Critical Colon (which is stated to havee Enteric-GUARD) is recommended to be taken BETWEEN meals.  While the Super Critical (which has no information about enteric coating on the packaging or web site) is recommended to be taken WITH meals.

This really shouldn't be so confusing. Please supply the information so the consumer can ensure that he/shye gets the fullest benefit from the product by taking it correctly.  Especially if there's the possibility that it can be rendered useless by incorrect consumption.

Hello,

I recently purchase your Ultimate Flora Super Critical 200 Billion packets as well as the Ultimate Flora Critical Colon 80 Billion 30-day tablets.  I'm a little confused about the conflicting recommendations for dosage I'm reading on your labels and information I've been reading in my research on the subject. The Super Critical formula is supposed to be taken take WITH meals, the Critical Colon says to take BETWEEN meals and my research says that all probiotic supplements work most effectively if taken AFTER meals, when stomach acid is lowest.  The theory being that stomach acid destroys up to 99.9% of probiotics if taken BEFORE a meal but only about 90% if taken AFTER the meal. Thus, after-meal intake ensures maximum delivery to the small intestine where they reproduce rapidly, populating the colon.

Can you clarify as there is very little information about this provided on your labels or on your web site.

Thank you….
