OfflineHi David,
Omega-3 helps the heart in a few different ways. First of all, Omega-3 helps the body properly respond to inflammation and has been shown to beneficially affect the inflammatory response. Another key way Omega-3 aids the heart is by positively affecting cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
Omega-3 is considered an "essential" fatty acid and therefore is needed in the diet, however many people do not consume enough Omega-3. Omega-3 fats can be found most in fatty fish, and that is just not typically found in the standard American diet.
