Refresh Your Diet
Rule number one? Put down the carb-heavy comfort foods and start fresh! Not that all carbs are bad (because they’re not), but when it comes to healthy eating it’s all about choosing the right carbs, which includes plenty of fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and legumes. Unlike those heavily processed snack foods that are loaded with refined sugars and can slow down healthy digestion and metabolism, foods high in fiber work with your body instead of against it.
Research shows that eating a high-fiber diet (at least 35 grams every day) is one of best natural ways to shed those unwanted pounds and maintain a healthy body weight. That’s because fiber works in the body to help manage hunger and keep you feeling satisfied throughout the day. Fiber-rich foods help keep blood sugar levels on an even keel to prevent unhealthy snacking, and they help get rid of unused calories by literally ‘flushing’ them out of the body through regular, healthy bowel movements.
Along with high-fiber foods, be sure to eat plenty of lean protein from sources such as chicken and fish, and remember to drink enough water throughout the day to support healthy metabolism. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water every day.
